The long-time certifying body for anesthesiologists, the American Board of Anesthesiology is responsible for administering certification assessments to promote excellence in anesthesiology. Though the organization administered the 2021 APPLIED Examinations virtually in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it recently announced it intends to hold the 2022 exams in-person. Presently, the 2022 exams are scheduled to be held at the AIME Center, the American Board of Anesthesiology's assessment center, in Raleigh, North Carolina, starting in February 2022.
The organization also announced registration for the 2022 APPLIED Examination will open for those who passed the 2021 ADVANCED Exam in late-summer 2021. David O. Warner, MD, board secretary of the American Board of Anesthesiology, said he hopes anesthesiology professionals will be able to reconvene in better health in 2022, and he expressed gratitude to volunteers and candidates for displaying perseverance, professionalism, and patience during the past year.
